AIXI – Advanced 3-axis Machining Manufacturer and Factory

3-axis machining is an excellent manufacturing process that uses computer code to achieve efficient and fast machining of parts. Its emergence has completely changed the traditional slow manual milling machine processing, accelerated the development of the manufacturing industry, and promoted the progress of the entire society. It can be said to be a revolution in the manufacturing industry.

As the most basic CNC processing method, 3-axis machining has laid the foundation for modern processing technology. Later, more advanced processing methods such as 4-axis and 5-axis have evolved on the basis of 3-axis technology. Therefore, the learning and mastery of all programming engineers start with 3-axis machining.

As an expert in the CNC industry, AIXI has more than 20 3-axis machines, and engineers are good at designing a variety of fixtures for 3-axis machining. This capability not only provides a guarantee for large quantities of simple milling products, but also significantly improves processing efficiency.

Advantages and Features of AIXI 3-axis CNC Machining

AIXI has more than six professionals who focus on programming and processing of 3-axis machines, so we are usually able to complete prototype delivery within 1-3 days. We are equipped with international brand Mazak and HAAS machine tools, as well as China’s JDCNC machine tools, which always maintain the stability of tolerances and high precision during product processing.

Advantages and Features of AIXI 3-axis CNC Machining

CNC 3-axis machining controls the tool to move along three axes through a computer to cut materials accurately. The entire process remains highly stable to ensure the product achieves excellent quality and precision.

3-axis machined products are usually completed by drilling, milling surfaces, etc. And by designing fixtures, multiple products can be processed at one time to save processing time. 3-axis machine tools are cheaper than 4-axis and 5-axis machine tools, and the total processing cost will be lower.

Programming 3-axis machine tools is relatively simple, and operator requirements are low. Thus, they are ideal entry choices for beginners in the CNC industry.

3-axis machining suits almost all materials, including metals, plastics, wood, etc. Whether it is cutting, drilling, or slotting, it can be completed efficiently.

All AIXI processing procedures follow the ISO 9001 quality system. After each process of the parts is completed, we will conduct a full inspection and then proceed to the next step to ensure that the product will not produce errors at the end to delay the delivery date.

The Process of 3-axis CNC Machining

For the entire manufacturing industry, different product designs always correspond to different processing methods. When we get the customer’s drawings, we will first analyze the product design and materials and choose the appropriate processing method. If the product requires milling, drilling, tapping, and other processing, we will first choose 3-axis machining. The specific processing process is as follows:

📐  1. Process Planning

Determine the processing steps (milling, drilling, etc.) according to the tolerance of the drawing and the finish of the product. At the same time, select the appropriate tool type, including drills, chamfering tools (45 degrees, 60 degrees, 90 degrees) and ball-end tools, etc.

💾  2. Programming

The engineer imports the 3D drawing into the software and uses the CAM software to write the code. (The programming software used by AIXI includes Unigraphics NX, Mastercam, and the software that comes with the brand machine tools, such as Beijing Jingdiao JDSoft SurfMill and Mazak Mazatrol)

🔄  3. Simulation & Optimization

After the computer finishes writing the program, we will first simulate the processing on the computer to determine whether the written program is correct, determine the product processing time, and whether the program can be optimized to save processing time.

🔧  4. Machine Tuning

The engineer will import the written U disk program into the machine tool control system to debug the machine. Before that, we will first fix the product on the machine tool operating table, then select the tool, determine the center, and perform the tool setting operation. After completing all the preparations, we will run the program and perform CNC machining operations.

✅  5. Quality Inspection

After completing a step, QC personnel will inspect the product according to the drawings. Commonly used inspection tools are calipers, height gauges, micrometers, etc. If there is a problem with the size, we can modify the program in time and reprocess until the product is correct.

🔍  6. Surface Finishing

After CNC machining is completed, we will clean the product and remove burrs. Then, we make subsequent surface treatments according to the drawings, such as electroplating, oxidation, powder spraying, electrophoresis, heat treatment, etc.

AIXI has a complete processing flow standard. If any errors occur during the processing, we will correct them in time to ensure that the final product is delivered on time and perfectly.

3-Axis CNC Machining vs 5-Axis CNC Machining

Five-axis-CNC-machining-parts
3-Axis Machining 5-Axis Machining
Number of Axes Three axes (X, Y, Z) Five axes (X, Y, Z + Two rotational axes)
Movement Direction The tool can only move in three directions. The tool can move simultaneously in five directions, achieving better contact with part surfaces.
Machining Capability Suitable for simple geometric shapes, such as CNC facing, drilling, and slotting. Can process curved surfaces and complex parts, such as ship components, impellers, medical, and aerospace core parts.
Application Scenarios Mass production of simple parts. High-precision prototypes and small-batch parts.
Programming Requirements Geared towards entry-level programming engineers. Requires experienced programmers with proficiency in advanced CAM software.
Equipment Cost Lower, usually between $30,000 to $100,000. Higher, can reach millions of dollars.

AIXI has extensive experience in 3-axis and 5-axis machining. We have manufactured tens of thousands of parts for customers around the world. If you don’t know which machining method to choose for your parts, contact AIXI, and you will get the most comprehensive answer.

What Materials Can be Processed by AIXI 3-axis CNC Machining?

FAQs of AIXI 3-axis CNC Machining Factory

The accuracy of 3-axis machining is related to many factors, such as the performance of the equipment, the quality of the tool, whether it is new or old (mainly depends on whether the tool wear is serious), the different programs of the programmers, and the cutting fluid.

The accuracy of AIXI three-axis parts is usually based on ISO 2768-F grade tolerance. For precision holes and bearing positions, we can achieve ±0.01mm. If you need more precise tolerances, we can combine grinding to complete it.

To estimate a part’s processing time, we must know its size, complexity, tolerance requirements, and even the materials used in the product.

  • Simple aluminum plate products less than 100mm can be processed in a few minutes.
  • Steel gears, which require multiple surface processing and are less than 50mm in size, usually take an hour to complete.
  • If it involves complex, multi-surface stainless steel and titanium alloy parts, we need to process them for several hours or even longer.

AIXI can not only support small batch customization, but our MOQ can also be one piece, which is rapid prototyping. If the aluminum parts are less than 100 pieces, we can usually deliver them within a week.

AIXI is also good at mass production because we have enough equipment and personnel to support the delivery of large quantities of parts. Our monthly output of simple 3-axis aluminum products is usually about 300,000 pieces.

AIXI’s specialty is processing complex parts. Our team prefers to pursue difficult products. This better reflects our processing capabilities and the technical capabilities of programmers.

We have more than 8 3+2 five-axis machine tools and more than 6 360° rotating 5-axis machine tools. The largest five-axis product can achieve a diameter of 500mm. If you also have similar complex shape parts processing, AIXI will be a perfect choice.
